How to use it

Enter your material cost, your labor time and the hourly rate you want to earn, and your overhead (per item, or as a percent of materials + labor). Set the profit margin you want on top. Turn on the wholesale toggle if you sell wholesale too, the wholesale ratio field is yours to adjust, it doesn’t have to be exactly half.

FAQ

Handmade pricing, frequently asked

Should I pay myself for my labor time?

Yes. Your time is a real cost, not a favor to your customers. This calculator bakes your target hourly rate into the price so you’re not quietly working for free.

What’s a typical wholesale ratio?

Around 50% of retail is common, but it’s your call, the ratio field is editable. If your wholesale price comes out below your base cost, this tool flags it rather than hiding it.

What counts as overhead?

Packaging, a share of tools and utilities, market fees you spread across units, anything real that isn’t materials or your direct labor time. Enter it per item or as a percent, whichever you know.
